A member of the Walnut family, Butternut, is often referred to as “White Walnut,” because of its light tan to cinnamon-colored heartwood. With a cathedral like grain pattern, our Butternut is full of character and can make your project stand out from the crowd. Expect boards to have natural features such as knots, wane, pith, worm holes, rough edges, and/or splits. Select between a 10 board feet box and a 20 board feet box. Boxes are packed with boards that are surfaced-2-sides and come 1 inch thick, range from 3 to 7 inches in width, and range from 2 to 7 feet in length. These boxes are packed based on board footage and not by board size. Our hardwood isn’t a finished thickness (hit or miss) and may still require you to flatten, plane, shape or sand your boards to fit your project.

Great materials

Wood was of excellent quality - sure there are piths and edges, but it is as advertised and you'll need to tune your project accordingly. Price for the quantity & quality of materials is beyond anything else I could've gotten online and worry free.
One caveat is, you should know the materials you're working with. Butternut is a soft variant of walnut - dont use it for heavy loads. I used mine for shelving w/ design elements. You get the pattern walnut without paying for black walnut.

Buternut - unsuitable for carving or furniture

The butternut wood was significantly of poorer quality than I have received from other venders. the wood was very soft and unsuitable for carving or furniture. It would be good for wainscoat in a rustice cabin.
